LUMI EuroHPC supercomputer contract awarded to HPE Cray, 375 Petaflop/s LINPACK

Kajaani, 2020-10-21 - One of the most powerful supercomputers in the world, LUMI, will start its operations in CSC's data centre in Kajaani, Finland, next year. The peak performance of LUMI is 552 Petaflop/s. The system will be installed by HPE Cray. For comparison, the world's fastest computer, Fugaku in Japan, reaches a peak performance of 513 Petaflop/s. The LINPACK HPC performance is 375 Petaflop/s. When LUMI's operations start next year, it will be one of the world's fastest supercomputers, somewhere amongst the 10 fastest. Read further...

 

Pre-exascale EuroHPC systems explained at EWPC Workshop: Leonardo at 248 Petaflop/s LINPACK

Almere, 2020-10-19 - The European HPC Infrastructure Workshop EWHPC took place earlier this month. It was focused around the three pre-exascale systems that are currently procured by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (JU) together with hosting entities. Pre-exascale systems are systems that achieve 200 Petaflop/s or more performance LINPACK performance. Contract for Leonardo pre-exascale 248 Petaflop/s EuroHPC supercomputer signed

Bologna, 2020-10-15 - The European supercomputer Leonardo, which will be managed by CINECA and will be installed in 2021 at the Tecnopolo in Bologna, will be based on Atos BullSequana XH2000 technology, and will be equipped with approximately 14.000 GPU accelerated processors from NVIDIA. It will have an aggregate HPL LINPACK performance of 248 Petaflop/s and a storage capacity of over 100 petabytes. This is about 10 times the computing power of CINECA's Marconi100 system, currently in ninth place in the world ranking of TOP500 supercomputing systems. 15,2 PetaFlop/s EuroHPC supercomputer in Ostrava at IT4Innovations to be delivered by HPE

, 2020-10-14 - Earlier this month, a contract to acquire the most powerful supercomputer in the Czech Republic, which will also rank among the most powerful in Europe, was signed. The contract was signed between the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU), Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which will deliver the system, and IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center VSB at the Technical University of Ostrava, where the new supercomputer will be located. Second EuroHPC supercomputer contract signed: Vega in Slovenia

Maribor, 2020-10-01 - The Institute of Information Science Maribor (IZUM) and the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking have selected Atos as the vendor for the Vega EuroHPC supercomputer. Again - after the first EuroHPC system MeluXina - it is again Atos that won the contract. It is an Atos Bull Sequana XH2000 system. Almere, 2020-10-12 - From downtown Almere's virtual studio Primeur Magazinehad the opportunity to interview University of Nottingham coordinator Xuerui Mao and Brazilian partner Bruno Souza Carmo, who works at the University of São Paulo, about the High-Performance Computing for Wind Energy (HPCWE) project. Xuerui Mao explained that HPCWE has 11 partners. Eight of them are from Europe and three are from Brazil. This consortium covers SME industries, HPC centres and universities. Brussels, 2020-09-18 - The European Commission has proposed a new Regulation for the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) to maintain and advance Europe's role in supercomputing and quantum computing. It will support research and innovation activities for new supercomputing technologies, systems and products, as well as foster the necessary skills to use the infrastructure and form the basis for a world-class ecosystem in Europe. The proposal would enable an investment of 8 billion euro in the next generation of supercomputers - a substantially larger budget compared to the current one of about 1,5 billion euro. Dublin, 2020-09-11 - The Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC), Ireland's High-Performance Computing authority announced on September 11, the details of seven academic projects which will be supported by its new Academic Flagship Programme. This two year programme aims to increase Irish competitiveness in the European supercomputing landscape. The seven successful projects were selected from a competitive call which received 13 proposals from researchers distributed across 17 universities/institutes across Ireland, UK, Spain, France, Germany, Denmark, Japan and the USA. The Academic Flagship Programme will operate under the EuroHPC Competency Centre for Ireland which ICHEC recently launched. EuroHPC JU funded SparCity project to deliver coherent collection of innovative algorithms and tools for sparse computations on emerging hardware platforms

Almere, 2020-09-07 - Didem Unat is the project coordinator of a newly awarded project called SparCity, an optimization and co-design framework for sparse computation. Didem Unat works as a faculty member at the Koç University located in Istanbul, Turkey. Prior to joining Koç University, Didem Unat was a researcher at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and highly involved in exascale co-design projects. Her research area includes programming environments, runtime systems, compilers, libraries for scientific and industrial applications. Her academic university group is involved in developing system software, programme modelling and prediction tools. In addition, they perform application parallelisation and optimisation. Koç University is a small but very well known research university in Turkey, specialized in logic programming.
